LEED

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a third-party rating system for green building created by the United States Green Building Council. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor air quality. The rating system is specific to the type of project being worked on. Some of the specific programs are LEED-New Construction, LEED-Existing Buildings, LEED-Commercial Interiors and LEED-Homes. The rating systems are broken down into points for each type of credit. Certification levels within the systems are:

• First Level (minimum points): Certified
• Second Level: Silver
• Third Level: Gold
• Fourth Level (maximum points): Platinum

As a LEED-accredited professional, I guide owners, contractors, designers and developers through the LEED certification
process by:

• Analyzing the needs of the project
• Educating builders/owners (including defining specific credits)
• Selecting products and materials
• Planning technologies and systems
• Documenting and submitting for credits
